The Kuntz Foundation



RESPONSIVE


The Kuntz Foundation was established in 1946 as a private corporate foundation of The Peter Kuntz Company and its retail lumber yards. The original Trustees were the sons of the company's founder Peter Kuntz, Sr. and were active in management of the company. Between 1946 and 1986, the Foundation served primarily to meet charitable and civic requests made to the PK lumber yards. In addition, it contributed to other groups in the greater Dayton area and beyond with whom the Trustees had established personal ties. These contributions continued the wonderful record of philanthropy established by Peter Kuntz, Sr. during his lifetime.


In 1986, the co
mpany was sold and The Kuntz Foundation converted from a corporate to a family foundation. In 1990, the charter of the Foundation was changed to a supporting organization of The Dayton Foundation. This new relationship provided many benefits, including the addition of The Dayton Foundation's President as a Trustee. The Dayton Foundation staff supplies office support, data, and expert counsel on many points of concern.


Presently the Kuntz Foundation is governed by six family members from the third and fourth generations, plus The Dayton Foundation CEO. The Board members are all unpaid volunteers who meet quarterly to consider grant requests and other operational matters.


PHILANTHROPIC


Since its inception, the Kuntz Foundation has contributed over six million dollars to organizations in the fields of Education, Religion, Health Care, Civic and Cultural Affairs, and Human Services. We will consider applications for capital projects. Unless we so stipulate, all grants are for one time. Grants for individuals will not be considered. All applying organizations must be IRS approved, non-profit groups.



MATCHING FUNDS PROGRAM


For descendants, married spouses, and widows of the Peter Kuntz Family who wish to take advantage of the Foundation's Matching Funds Program it's a simple process. You must be at least 21 years old to make application.


You can send a request, along with your check to the Foundation. (Be sure it is a qualified 501(c)(3) organization.) Your check along with the Foundation's check will be forwarded to your charity. The minimum amount of a request is $100 up to $500, annually for each person. This is a great way to help an organization that you personally feel is worthwhile.
